Based on the current sets available it looks like we are getting 6 Seasons Legend Champions in order to get the 99 ovr Ultimate Legend Champion. We already know two in Tim Tebow and DeSean Jackson, but I was thinking who else do we have to look forward to?
TL;DR
Tim Tebow, DeSean Jackson, Reggie Bush, Ndamukong Suh, Luke Kuechly, Charles Woodson. Alternate: Larry Fitzgerald, Cam Newton
This is all based on clear speculation, and maybe you know who they are but I will try my best to provide my reasoning for the choices I think.
1. I think the champions will all be players from a more recent era. I feel the main community who are playing this game are younger and to keep up excitement they want players who have played sometime after 2000, that's an arbitrary number but around then. I look to Roger Staubach for this, compared to the other top tier QBs, he is selling for considerable less than most. And I think it is just the problem of people who watched him, are not playing this game so the connection isn't there.
2. It dose not make too much sense to stack positions for this, so I am basing my predictions on the thought they will be different positions, sans 1 which I will talk about later.
3. I think they will stick close to home. Both players so far are former cover athletes. More than half of my picks have graced the cover.
4. I do not see an Offensive Lineman, Tight End, Full back or Safety being chosen as the excitement level will also be low.
With the above in mind I expect to see a RB, DE, LB and CB as the next Seasons Legends. Im not going to try and predict order, although I do think we are in for a defensive Legend next, so I will go in order of how I listed them above.
RB- While Archie Griffin is an obvious choice here, due to speculation 1 above I dont think we see him as the Champion, but I can't imagine we dont see him as a legend card. Some of the more recent choices would be Ingram, McFadden, Barry, Bo, and Peterson my gut tells me it's Reggie Bush. He was on the cover and is arguable the best running back of the era. Heisman, NC, and the name is super recognizable for my generation.
DL- Tons of great names to pick from, I am not going to go into too much depth here but Ndamukong Suh is my choice for the fact he was a Heisman finalist which is not common for his position and looking at his stats in college he was a monster, his name will always come up in conversations of best d lineman in cfb history.
LB- This was a difficult one for me, if I did not put the position restriction I would have left this position off. There are great historic names like Seau, Ham, LT, but there just hasn't been a recent guy like **Luke Kuechly. ** He dominated in college and although this shouldn't factor into the decision, had a great career in the NFL. Like I said I am hesitant on this pick but if they do go LB I can't see anyone but Luke
CB- This may be a stretch in terms of the era but I can't think of anyone more deserving than Charles Woodson for this spot. He is the most decorated player in football history. At every level he won the top prize. He was also on the cover and still around college football today so the excitement is still there. Deion Sanders is the only other name that I even thought about for a few seconds. He is electric, a head coach and an amazing player but the EA ties and the fact he is the only primarily defensive player to win the Heisman, I can't see Woodson being anything other than a season champion.
Now for the 99 OVR prediction. I am leaning toward a token to upgrade any of the 6 season legends to a 99 OVR. This would make sense as it spreads out the 99 players so that it is not 1 single 99 that everyone has. But for the sake of throwing another deserving name out there I would love to see a Larry Fitzgerald card. If Tebow wasn't announced first he would be my obvious pick for the 99. I do not know that I would say Fitz is a 99 where the rest wouldn't be, and if I didn't have the one position rule Larry would probably take over for Luke. But if anyone is deserving of a season legend that I haven't already mentioned, it's Fitz.
Who am I missing? Who do you think will be a Season Legend over the people I picked?
Edit: Cam Newton - If I am breaking the one position rule for Larry, I should have mentioned breaking the rule for Cam Newton as well. Although he really only dominated the one year, he is absolutely deserving of a Season Legend card as well. Again I dont know that I would make him the 99 OVR player, I dont think he is more deserving than the others but he should be in the discussion.
