In College Football 26 Ultimate Team, it's not just about who you've got on the field; it's what they can do. Abilities can be the difference between a 3-and-out and a game-winning drive. With abilities driving early builds, knowing which ones deliver real value is key.
After testing and analyzing gameplay trends here, here are the top 5 offensive abilities in CUT you should be using right now as of 7/18. Whether you’re chasing National Championships, playing House Rules, or just trying to keep your head above water in sweaty matchups.
1. Battering Ram
Slightly increased Wear and Tear damage to defenders when being tackled
This ability is quietly devastating, and honestly, borderline broken. Don’t be surprised if it gets tuned by EA in a future update. Battering Ram punishes defenders with every tackle, increasing fatigue and wearing down their attributes throughout the game. If used consistently, it can put a defense in a vulnerable spot where they’re either forced to sub in backups or risk running starters with noticeably reduced ratings.
Update: EA has temporarily disabled the Battering Ram ability in Ultimate Team. According to CFB Ultimate Team's Official Tweet, this ability is being reworked to adjust the AP cost and attribute requirements.
If you currently have Battering Ram equipped, you’ll need to deactivate it in your lineup screen until it's re-enabled. We’ll update this article as soon as it’s back in the game.
2. Takeoff
Slightly quicker release off the line when not pressed
Takeoff is all about that explosive first step. If your receivers aren’t getting pressed at the line, this ability turns every route into a track meet. It’s a subtle but impactful boost that helps you stack DBs on go routes, corners, posts, and even drags. Pair it with speedsters and you'll consistently stretch the defense, opening up chances for one-play touchdowns. It’s especially deadly against Nickel Double Mug Cover 0 blitz spammers who leave their secondary hanging.
3. Armbar
Slightly improved stiff arms
If you enjoy running the ball or just lifting defenders off their feet, Armbar is for you. It enhances your stiff-arm animations and helps extend your runs. The stiff arm alone with no abilities is already overpowered. Mix that with the Armbar ability, and it's basically the equivalent to the start of Quinshon Judkins' spin move at the beginning of CFB25.
4. Shifty
Slightly improved ability to maintain speed during cuts as a ball carrier
This ability is the difference between a 5-yard gain and a 60-yard touchdown. Shifty lets you glide through traffic like water, especially on outside zones, counters, and cutbacks. Maintaining speed through cuts means the difference between getting caught at the line or breaking off a huge run. For agile backs, it’s a certified game-changer.
5. Dot
Slightly increased accuracy in the pocket for open receivers
Clean pockets should equal completions, and Dot helps make that a reality. Whether you're throwing a deep post or a curl route, this ability improves accuracy when the receiver is open. It's a precision-based perk that rewards good reads, smart play, and calm QB mechanics.
Honorable Mentions
- On Time – Slightly improved accuracy when throwing with anticipation. If you're throwing windows before the cut, this gives your timing an extra edge.
- Cutter – Slightly improved cut moves when route running. Ideal for creating separation on slants, outs, posts, zigs, and return routes. Particularly against man coverage.
Whether you’re building a ground-and-pound squad or a spread-air raid offense, the right abilities can elevate your entire game.
