In College Football 26 Ultimate Team, there seems to be a new mode replacing Champs from last year, and it is called Extra Credit.
This newly dropped head-to-head mode offers a fresh way to compete, and it feels like a mini gauntlet if I'm going to be completely honest. Whether you're chasing top-tier packs or just proving your skills, Extra Credit brings a new atmosphere to earn rewards and test your roster.
Here’s everything you need to know about this new competitive mode.
What Is Extra Credit?
Extra Credit is a weekly head-to-head challenge mode built to reward consistency and high-level play. You can enter up to two times per week, and the event resets every Thursday at 1:30 PM ET.
Each run ends when you either:
- Win 4 games in a tier (there are 5 total tiers), or
- Lose 3 times, which eliminates you from the event and sends you back to Tier I on your next entry.
The goal? Stack wins, earn bigger rewards, and climb through all five tiers with the stakes and payouts increasing at each level.
Rewards: Tier-by-Tier Breakdown
Every win in Extra Credit earns you 2,000 coins, while losses give you a small consolation of 200 coins per game. But the real value comes from clearing tiers.
Let’s break down what you get at each level:
Tier I
- 4 Wins: Victory Formation Pack
- 3 Wins: Field Goal Pack
- 2 Wins: Hail Mary Pack
- 1 Win: 4,000 Coins
- 0 Wins: 50 Coins
Tier II
- 4 Wins: 2x Victory Formation Pack
- 3 Wins: Victory Formation Pack
- 2 Wins: Field Goal Pack
- 1 Win: Hail Mary Pack
- 0 Wins: 75 Coins
Tier III
- 4 Wins: National Championship Pack
- 3 Wins: 2x Victory Formation Pack
- 2 Wins: Victory Formation Pack
- 1 Win: Field Goal Pack
- 0 Wins: 100 Coins
Tier IV
- 4 Wins: 2x National Championship Pack
- 3 Wins: 2x Victory Formation Pack
- 2 Wins: Victory Formation Pack
- 1 Win: Field Goal Pack
- 0 Wins: 100 Coins
Tier V
- 4 Wins: 3x National Championship Pack
- 3 Wins: 2x National Championship Pack
- 2 Wins: National Championship Pack
- 1 Win: 2x Victory Formation Packs
- 0 Wins: 200 Coins

My experience with Extra Credit
I took a full run at Extra Credit this past week, and let me tell you this mode is no joke.
I walked through the first three tiers without breaking much of a sweat. At least 80% of opponents quit once I built a solid lead. But when I got to Tier IV, it was a different story. There’s definitely some kind of ELO or ranked-based matchmaking going on, because the competition got real.
By the time I hit Tier IV, I had to sit up in my chair and lock in. You’ve got just three losses before elimination, and every mistake feels magnified when the effort and time you put in, along with the rewards being on the line. But man, when you hit that 4-0 run? It feels relieving.
Overall Thoughts
I’m still on the fence about there being no Champs mode this year, especially since that used to be a reliable way to earn a free Gauntlet entry. Don't love the idea of paying 50k coins every weekend, but Extra Credit is a solid alternative. It’s a good way to test out new schemes, face off against real competition, and stack some decent rewards along the way.
For what it’s worth, I pulled an LTD Lawrence Taylor from one of my Natty packs, so it definitely didn’t feel like a waste of time.
