The highly anticipated College Football 26 Gameplay Deep Dive Trailer went live earlier today, along with an article, and both included a ton of new info showcasing what we will see in CFB 26! The info below is just SOME of what was shown in the trailer and article. If you want to check out EA’s full article with even more info, you can by clicking here.
Playbook Expansion and Head Coaches
- College Football 26 is introducing over 2,800+ new plays and 45+ new formations to the game! These new plays and formations will allow teams to really feel and look like they do on Saturdays by providing a level of authenticity that College Football 25 couldn’t reach.
- Plays and formations from this past CFB season such as Penn State's Shotgun Gate and Swinging Gate Variants that have to do a lot with misdirection and spreading out the defense, to Western Kentucky's Power I Hulk with 2 Defensive Lineman leading the way, as well as many other new additions will be available to use.
- Another way College Football 26 is becoming more authentic is the addition of 300+ REAL life coaches! We know from the trailer that we are getting the likes of James Franklin from Penn State, Marcus Freeman from Notre Dame, and Steve Sarkisian from Texas.

Archetypes and Abilities
- Always a big talking point, whether it be in CFB or Madden, abilities run the game in a lot of cases. In College Football 26, abilities have been rebalanced, new abilities have been added, and 10 new archetypes have been created to make players feel more dynamic than ever.
- A total of 84 abilities will be in College Football 26. On top of new and rebalanced abilities, if a player starts getting "Hot" in-game, their physical abilities start to receive boosts. So if a QB has a Platinum ability and momentum is going his way, he can have it upgraded to the new Heisman Tier.

Coverage Improvements
- A counter to the Route Stems, Custom Zones are making their debut in both College Football 26 and Madden 26. This new feature allows you to make individual adjustments on the field to zone depths similar to how you Route Stem on offense. Any zone from a Deep Half to a Cloud Flat can now be adjusted exactly how deep or shallow you want on the fly.
- Route Committing is another brand new feature that allows you to make high-risk, high-reward guesses to tell your defense to aggressively play inside or out-breaking routes. You can pair this new tactic with Shading routes to make your defense play for exactly what you think your opponent is running.
- DBs don't have eyes on the back of their head anymore... Tuning has been added to prevent DBs from making unrealistic "Blind" interceptions when they can't see the ball. If they are fully turned around, running at full speed, they will react more to the WR instead of the ball.
- Safety Depth can now be adjusted to Close, Default, Deep, and Prevent. Safety Width can also be adjusted to Default, Spread, Wide, and Pinch. All of these options will allow for more unique and tailored looks for your defense.
- A new RPO Coaching adjustment will allow you to control how your defenders play RPOs.

Dynamic Substitutions
- A cool new feature is Dynamic Substitutions. You can pull up the menu by hitting Up on the D-Pad when you're at the line of scrimmage and make adjustments right from there.
- This new feature should help players make adjustments without having to pause the game or do it from the Pre-Play screen.

Home Field Advantage
- Home Field Advantage is getting even crazier with more penalties for the visitors, such as not being able to see the play clock, and more difficult kicking scenarios. You will want to get a lead and keep it if you are on the visiting side.

What are your thoughts on the Gameplay Deep Dive? What new features are you looking forward to the most?
