Completing Lateral

Having fun with the intro solos but can't complete a lateral.  Isn't a lateral just a pass behing the line of scrimmage?  Of have done it multiple times but solo does not give me credit .  What am I missing?

Once you have posseion with rb or even a wr after a catch just throw a lateral with L1 for PS5.
