I'm pretty sure auto catching will still be available based on what the developer says when he talks about it in the video. Catching, similar to DB inputs have always been timing based. For example, if you press and hold one of the input buttons as soon as the ball is thrown and don't let go the receiver/DB reaction is no where near as good as when you wait until the ball is about 1/2 way there then press whichever input you want. Then you have to release it the moment the ball gets to the player.

They're giving people the option to dial it in even more. But I do believe it will be optional. There's still going to be a lot to learn but a lot of really cool stuff too!
