In the line up screen we're given basically a 4-3 defense.
Is there something somewhere that will show which players go where when running a nickel, dime, 3-2-6 or 3-3-5? I feel like I could make my defense a lot better if I knew what players went where in certain situations.
I understand the concept of formations (3-2-6 equals 3 linemen, 2 LBs, and 6 DBs), but I can't tell how CFB determines which players will see the field.

Pay special attention to your SubLB and SLCB assignments in your two-deep under the Specialist tab in your Lineup. Same on your RRE, RDT, and RLE. They will populate key subs in Nickel and Dime sets.
SLCB1 will be your Nickel sub. SLCB2 will play your other slot in Dime. If you're thin at CB be careful about who moves up to play at CB1 & CB2 when in Nickel & Dime. Can leave you vulnerable to getting beat over the top if you don't have quality depth.
You can go into Practice mode and use the Substitution feature on the play calling screen to confirm who's lining up where in different formations and packages.

Also when you are choosing a formation there is a small formation map to the right of the menu choices. It shows players by jersey number and where they line up in the formation
