What are the best abilities for cornerbacks / linebackers? Or defense in general.

For DBs, I'd say Ballhawk, House Call, or Knockout are the best options.
For LBs, if you're usering them and they have iffy COD rating, go with Robber. If their COD is ok, I'd say House Call or Workhorse.
For a non user LB, I usually just run them with no abilities so I'm not sure what would be best for a CPU controlled LB.

I'd agree with other commenters, ballhawk on DBs (I like them on FS, starting CB and slot CB). However, some games I feel like I can't get pressure, so I have tried switching to quick jumps and gold grip breaker (Von Miller). Although, the last day or so the quickjumps have been doing nothing so I am back to all ballhawk and grip breaker only.

I've started to run avalanche again. Wearing down all the Reggie Bushs is worth it. Most have workhorse on him so csnt ever get him to red but even yellow slows him down that little bit to let ya run him down on the edge.
